Navigating Single Track Roads on Isle of Skye

The roads on the Isle of Skye are known for being narrow and winding and not without its pot holes. The rules to follow when navigating these roads.

  • single track roads are narrow allowing space for one vehicle to pass at a time.

  • passing places are used as designated areas on single track roads to pull over to allow oncoming traffic to pass, and are usually marked with a sign, passing place.

  • when oncoming traffic approaches, if it is safe to do so, stop at the passing place for oncoming traffic, only use the passing place on the left, usually the traffic approaching downhill has right of way.

  • always stay within a moderate speed to allow time to react to any obstacles or potholes.

  • wildlife, always be alert for wildlife, animals can appear when least expected.
